GENEVIEVE ELLIS

LET'S BLAME SNOW WHITE ...

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Genevieve's rich vocal timbre, vulnerable storytelling and killer Shakira impression have somehow managed to get her to this point in her career. She began performing at a young age, as she would reenact various scenes from Snow White as a four-year-old, and force her entire family to watch. (Click here for photo evidence.)

She received her BFA in Musical Theatre from SUNY Fredonia and holds a Certificate in Advanced Vocal Pedagogy from Sonaura Voice. In October 2022, she made her National Tour debut in Les Misérables, after submitting a self-tape to an open call. She was not yet a member of the union and had no representation. She toured for two years, completing over 750 performances, as a member of the ensemble and covering Fantine.

Some of her favorite credits include; Brooke/Vicki (Noises Off), Cinderella (ITW), Portia (Something Rotten), Helena (MSND) & every single time she donned the blue factory hat as Fantine (50+ times!!) As a human being, she lives life with a whole lot of humor and a ton of dog hair. (Her dog sheds.) She is always down to play a game of Clue or Rummikub (just be prepared to lose), and wholeheartedly believes that laughter is the best medicine!

1/1/25 - Welcome HOME!

After two years on the road, I am so excited to finally (and OFFICIALLY) be living in NYC!!
So if you see someone who looks lost near 34th st. know that it's me and I am :)

Can't wait to hit the ground running in my new city!

3/28/24 - Les Miz Opening Night in Toronto!

The Les Miserables National Tour opened in Toronto this past Thursday evening. What a joy it was!

8/12/22 - National Tour Debut!

Still so baffled to be able to share this wonderful news! Grateful to be joining the 2022 National Tour of Les Misérables as Ensemble u/s Fantine.

I grew up singing these songs and loving this story, and I am truly just so honored to be a part of this incredible team. See you on the barricade!! Vive la France!

I am extremely honored to have been nominated for "Best Performance in a Musical (Off-Off Broadway)" for my performance as Lust in Rathskeller: A Musical Elixir !!

So grateful to have made my NYC debut with such a killer cast and show -- Cheers!

10/20/21 - A new world calls across the ocean...

So genuinely honored to be joining The Second Generation Theatre Company's production of Songs for a New World as Woman 1. Grateful to be singing this incredible music and sharing such a beautiful score with people who need it now more than ever.
